Deliver a behaviour-change
campaign tackling climate
Blackburn with Darwen
The challenge
Blackburn with Darwen Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and set a goal to be carbon neutral by 2030. They have a comprehensive Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) in place but wanted to better educate residents in the borough about climate change.
An awareness campaign was needed to encourage the residents of Blackburn with Darwen to make a change.
The strategy
After a competitive pitch, Hotfoot was selected to deliver the campaign. Our ‘One Degree Challenge’ strategy aimed to educate the residents of Blackburn with Darwen that, by lowering the temperature at home by one degree, households can save up to £100 a year on energy bills.
Lighthearted images of local faces added personality to a topic that can often be overwhelming and scare-mongering.
The results
Alongside delivery of the campaign assets, we also created a landing page on the official Blackburn with Darwen website with information about the ‘One Degree Challenge’ and featuring other relevant money-saving tips, all tied together with the campaign artwork.
Blackburn with Darwen was awarded an ‘A’ grade for its work on climate change – joining the likes of Paris, Barcelona and Stockholm.
