We attended and presented at a fantastic Marketing Lancashire event today at the Midland Hotel.
So many exciting things happening in the county – top of the list being Eden Project Morecambe, which has now been awarded £50m in the second round of the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund. At the risk of hyperbole, this truly has the potential to be a game-changer, both for our immediate area and the wider north.
As Lancaster City Council leader Caroline Jackson said, it “presented a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reinvent and rejuvenate Morecambe into a 21st Century seaside resort” with annual visitor numbers projected to be 740,000, and additional revenue brought into local businesses set to exceed the £50m Government investment within months of the project opening.
We have long advocated for investment in our region, and this could be the point at which things really start to gain momentum.
It was fantastic to hear the latest from project director Tim Narey, especially details of how visitors will be encouraged to explore Morecambe as a whole, which will inevitably lead to the creation of more businesses and growth for those already in place.
Preparation for construction is due to start this year and the aim is for Eden Project Morecambe to be open to visitors by 2026.
Exciting times ahead!
