If you know someone that loves the films of Studio Ghibli (and who doesn’t?), and has a thing for design too, then one of these posters could be the perfect gift.
From Paste magazine:
Artist and graphic designer Hyo Taek Kim has distilled the essence of his favorite films into beautiful, minimal works of art in “The Colors Of,” series. Each print features the main color palette used in the films of Hayao Miyazaki, expressed via long, horizontal strips of color.
Miyazaki is a legend in the animated film realm; he received an honorary Oscar at last year’s Governors Awards for his work on films like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. Following Miyazaki’s recent announcement regarding plans for retirement, his production studio, Studio Ghibli, has said their latest release, The Wind Rises, will be their last.
Taek Kim strips down Miyazaki’s movies to their basic color schemes, conveying mood and tone in single uncomplicated swatches. One of the prominent themes throughout Miyazaki’s films is the exploration of simple life versus technological advances, so the minimalist prints are a straightforward but poignant way to remember the films. Check out our favorites in the gallery above. The color schemes are available as framed art, canvas prints and even rugs at Society6.
